Root Canal Treatment
What is a root canal?
A root canal is one of the most common dental procedures performed, well over 14 million every year. This simple treatment can save your natural teeth and prevent the need of dental implants or bridges.
At the center of your tooth is the pulp. The pulp is a collection of blood vessels, nerve tissue and connective tissue. Infection of the pulp can be caused by trauma to the tooth, deep decay, cracks and chips, or repeated dental procedures. Symptoms of the infection can be identified as visible injury or swelling of the tooth, sensitivity to temperature or pain in the tooth and gums.
For more information about Root Canal Treatment or to schedule a consultation at Parkside Endodontics, call our Sunset SF office at Sunset District SF Office Phone Number 415-566-6900 or call our Downtown San Francisco office at Downtown San Francisco Office Phone Number 415-528-7590.
If you experience any of these symptoms, your dentist will most likely recommend non-surgical treatment to eliminate the diseased pulp. This injured pulp is removed and the root canal system is thoroughly cleaned and sealed. This therapy usually involves local anesthesia and may be completed in one or more visits depending on the treatment required. Success for this type of treatment occurs in about 90% of cases. If your tooth is not amenable to endodontic treatment or the chance of success is unfavorable, you will be informed at the time of consultation or when a complication becomes evident during or after treatment.
To provide you with a better understanding of endodontic therapy, we have provided the following multimedia presentation. Many common questions pertaining to root canals are discussed.
What happens after root canal treatment?
When your root canal therapy has been completed, a record of your treatment will be sent to your restorative dentist. You should contact their office for a follow-up restoration within a few weeks of completion at our office. Your restorative dentist will decide on the type of restoration necessary to protect your tooth. It is rare for endodontic patients to experience complications after routine endodontic treatment. If a problem does occur, however, we are available at all times to respond.
How much will root canal treatment cost?
The cost associated with the root canal procedure can vary depending on factors such as the severity of damage to the affected tooth and which tooth is affected. In general, endodontic treatment is much less expensive than tooth removal and replacement with an artificial tooth.

My dentist contacted Parkside Endodontics for a last minute root canal at 8;30 am and I was given a same day appointment at 3:00. They were very friendly and after a complete evaluation determined I needed a root canal. I was thoroughly informed about what needed to be done. Dr. Litten was very careful, very skilled, and measured and remeasured to make sure all calculations were correct. She was concerned about my comfort. I left at 6:15 and was given written instructions on post care and told to take ibuprofen immediately. I have had no pain since the procedure and do not need any more ibuprofen. I strongly recommend Dr. Litten for any procedure. Jenny, her assistant, was great, too, very kind and attentive.

Very efficient and no pain. Thank you.
This was my 2nd root canal performed by Dr. Lee and once again, there was little or no pain during the whole procedure. Even the shots were near painless. He totally put me at ease and explained everything before surgery. He is the absolute best! The staff are warm and welcoming and there is a feel of family members instead of coworkers in the office. This is THE place to go for a root canal! My star rating is an absolute 5!

I am beyond impressed! I haven't had a root canal in a long time (& hope not to have another soon) but I was blown away by Dr Lee and his staff. the office is state-of-the-art, as are his techniques. Dr Lee is simply masterful. no pain whatsoever. he thoughtfully explained the problem, the procedure, the costs. the only downside is how far away his ofc is from where I live. but he completed everything in 2 visits, and I'm really glad my dentist referred me to him. and I can hardly believe I'm sitting here telling you how "wonderful" my root canal was! but it really was.... dawn

Amazing! Who knew that a root canal could be just a minor inconvenience? This guy is a miracle worker!
- Daniel Y.
Really, it could not be better. This is an absolute, precise assessment. It could not be better on every quality. They worked me in during the busy holiday season on essentially no notice, Dr. Lee was my idea of a consummate professional, and his assistants were exceptionally qualified (working together with choreography that amazed me). Here is the seal for this 6 (not 5) star review: it is a pleasure to pay the bill. Even the music is good.

I felt very well taken care of which was very reassuring. Staff and Dr. Lee were very patient and seemed to really care about my wellbeing.

A friendly warm, friendly staff, in any dentists, or oral surgeon's office, is an absolute must in getting me to visit again. I was lucky to get the appointment at this time of year, and lucky to have Dr. Litton. I didn't t need to ask questions- everything was presented as we went along, and there was genuine concern for my comfort, even into the next day, by checking in with me. So much appreciated. Thanks, so very much.

Dr. Jenny Navasero did a painless root canal! I always thought root canals were painful, I was proven wrong. I am so happy Dr. Jenny agreed to see me right away and got rid of the pain for me to enjoy the rest of the week. Thank you for the staff for shifting my scheduled follow up appointment with another patient so that I can attend a meeting at work. Great service and commitment to their patients. The office is very clean and parking is not a problem.

Dr. Edward Lee just performed two root canals for me, one on each side of my mouth. He was not absolutely sure the two molars could be saved. I expected him to say that because I knew already just how bad these teeth were. He assured me that he would know early on into the procedure if he could save them from being extracted. OMG, the last thing I wanted was to lose these teeth! The thought of going through two root canals was very terrifying to me and I relayed my fears to Dr. Lee upon my initial visit for ex-rays. He was so kind and understanding as he explained the aspects of the procedure. He put all my fears to rest with the most calming 'chair side manner'. The first root canal was completed in one visit - I couldn't believe it! He and his assistant worked together like a finely tuned machine. What really impressed me was the fact that the procedure was painless for me. I was instructed to take a 600mg Ibuprofen when I got home. I did exactly that, but I must admit that I was waiting for pain or soreness to begin AFTER the novocain wore off...nope, ZERO PAIN for me. Dr. Lee went so far as to call me at home to check up on me! The second root canal was 90% completed in one visit and I had a short follow-up appointment to complete the job. Again, absolutely painless for me. I am so grateful to my dentist Barry Kinney for recommending Parkside Endodontics and thankful to Dr. Edward Lee for the incredible expert work he did saving my teeth and saving me from the expense of having to get a bridge or implants. Cheers to him and his great staff!

I have a tooth that was extremely sensitive with cold water and cold temperature. My general dentist ( Dr. Albert Kuan ) had recommended that I have a root canal therapy done a year ago. But I was very nervous about the process and I am a procrastinator. Until last week, the tooth was insanely sensitive and I decided to pursue with the procedure with Dr. Edward Lee. Dr. Edward Lee is awesome, knowledgeable, gentle, caring and respectful and is an absolute professional endodontist. His staff, Tina ( at the front desk ) and Jenny ( assistant ) are amazingly friendly and helpful. I received a reminder call about the appointment, and Jenny was a huge help with my fear about needles. She let me to squeeze her hand, and I immediately felt at ease. The root canal therapy procedure was absolutely painless, and Dr. Lee's attention to detail was apparent during every phase of the procedure . I actually fell asleep during the procedure. I was given instruction afterward and told to call him if I had any questions. Dr. Lee called me the next day to see how I felt. Now, that is a service that you don't usually get from a dentist. Thank You Dr. Lee, Tina and Jenny
